Yay! Summer is finally here, so it’s time to head to the water. However, keep in mind that water can take a toll on your hair and extensions. In this article, we’ll share a few simple tricks to help you enjoy the summer with your long and/or thick hair worry-free.

Protect your hair from the sun

We all know that excessive exposure to the sun isn’t good for our skin and that we need to protect ourselves. All our lives we’ve been reminded to apply sunscreen before venturing out in the sun. Yet, while we diligently slather on factor 50 at the beach or by the pool, our hair remains exposed to the heat without any protection. The best way to shield your hair from the sun is to apply a leave-in treatment that includes heat protection. Pay extra attention to your parting. Want extra protection? Proper care is crucial at the pool or sea

After applying the leave-in treatment with sun protection, loosely braid your hair before taking a dip in the refreshing water. This simple step will help prevent tangling. Use a spiral hair tie to avoid leaving any wrinkles. If there’s a shower nearby, it’s wise to rinse your hair thoroughly afterwards. Though there’s a strong temptation to reach for our brush immediately after swimming, it’s best to gently undo the braid and allow your hair to air dry. Wet hair is most vulnerable and can break more easily when brushed.
