Hair glossary

Remy, Raw Hair, Brazilian, Russian – the hair glossary explains the most important terms from the world of real hair extensions

This glossary is comprised of information compiled from hair experts, hair manufacturers and physicians.

Androgenetic hair loss

Androgenetic hair loss is the most common form of hair loss. This genetic trait causes an oversensitivity to the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT) shortening the growth cycle of the hair follicles.  People with sparse hair growth do not have fewer hair follicles than people with full hair but, the growth phase of their hair is shortened to the point where the hair is scarcely visible.

In cases of advanced hair loss, we work with various systems (the MicroLines system,  Real hair integration ), to restore the former hair volume to those affected.

Artificial hair

Artificial hair or synthetic hair is made of textile fibers. It is considerably cheaper than real hair and is often associated with poor quality. But, like real hair, artificial hair varies in price and quality.

Lower quality artificial hair is often statically charged and therefore attracts dust easier, quickly losing its gloss. Higher-quality artificial hair, on the other hand, may remain glossy and smooth for a very long time, and in terms of quality, is often better for certain hair products than real hair of an inferior quality. It can therefore not be generalized that only poor quality artificial hair is available.

Asian hair

A majority of hair donors are from east Asia. This hair is naturally dark brown to black, smooth and very thick (see raw hair). In order to change the color or texture, the hair is treated with harsh chemicals  Due to it’s abundance, this type of hair is more commonly found in less expensive extensions. Because of the processing needed, Hairdreams does not utilize this type of hair.

Basic hair types

Human hair is divided into three basic types: Caucasian Type, Asian Type and African Type hair.

  • African Type raw hair is most common in Africa and among black people. It features tight curls and has a cross section similar to a ribbon noodle (approx. 0.02 mm high and 0.8 mm wide). It is naturally black to dark brown.
  • Asian Type raw hair is most common in Asian countries such as Myanmar, China, Cambodia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Mongolia, Vietnam etc. It is smooth, has a round and circular cross section and is thicker  (approx. 0.07 mm to 0.12 mm). It is naturally black so has to be chemically bleached.
  • Caucasian Type raw hair comes from a variety of regions worldwide and its texture is smooth to curly. It is principally finer, has an oval to triangular diameter (approx. 0.04 mm to 0.07 mm) and is available in all color variants: from black, all shades of brown to auburn, blonde and ash-blonde.
Beaded extensions

With this method, individual hair strands or sections are attached to a plastic or metal ring called a bead (approx. 2 to 7 mm in diameter). The bead is then pressed together with special extension tools and clamped to the natural hair. This application process needs to be very precise so as not to damage the natural hair. In addition, the beads should not be applied too close to the scalp, otherwise they can cause pain and pressure.

Hairdreams does not have micro bead extensions in its product range, we work exclusively with tape and bonded extensions.

Bonded extensions

What are bonded extensions?

A bonded extension refers to the attachment point that is fastened at the top end of many extension hairs becoming what is commonly referred to as an “extension strand”. To apply, the bond is melted with a heating tool and the stylist then attaches the extension to the clients own hair near the root.  This is also referred to as “Heat Fusion” type bond.

These types of points are often wrongly referred to as keratin bonding. Keratin is hard and cannot be melted. The bond is thermal reactive and is made of a thermoplast. This is a synthetic material that becomes soft and malleable with heat and then hardens and becomes firm when it cools.

How are bonded extensions applied?

There are two principle methods:

  • Individual bonds: the extensions are applied manually to the natural hair.  Your stylist shapes the bond with their fingers. It can be shaped either round or flat depending on your preference and hairstyle.
  • Automatic multiple bonded application: here several hair extensions are applied to the natural hair at the same time with a machine.

Hairdreams works with both methods and we’ll often combine them for the perfect result.

How large or small are the attachment points?

This varies from manufacturer to manufacturer. As a rule, good systems have very small attachment points, like Hairdreams provides. They are more comfortable to wear and virtually indistinguishable from your own natural hair.

Good systems will also have different extension thicknesses (how many individual hairs in a bond), depending where they are used on the head. We work with a total of three thicknesses or referred to as bond sizes.

How are the bonds removed?

A trained stylist will release the thermoplast connection with a removal tool and removal solution. Our specially formulated Hairdreams Removal Solution is manufactured to be very mild and gentle on your own hair.

Brazilian hair

Brazilian hair comes from the indigenous people of Brazil. It is very similar to the Asian hair type (see section on “raw hair”) and is naturally always black. It is offered as straight, wavy and curly. This hair type is on the thicker side of type Caucasian hair.

Circular hair loss

Alopecia Areata, also known as circular hair loss, is an autoimmune reaction in which the immune system attacks the hair roots. These get inflamed and hair falls out in clumps, leading to circular bald patches on the head. The hair roots are not completely destroyed, so in some cases the hair can grow back again. Apart from an immune system disorder, circular hair loss can also be caused by stress, shock or toxins.

In case of very severe hair loss, we work with systems (MicroLines), to restore hair volume to those affected.

Clip-in extensions

Clip-in extensions are specifically designed for short-term use. They generally range from 1.5″ to 16″ in width and have a clip or several clips sewn or attached on a weft or tape-in type track. The clip(s) is used to attach to your own hair.

The advantages of clip-ins is that they can be self-applied at home to create hair volume – used for occasions such as weddings, parties etc. It is important that the clips are applied carefully, otherwise your own natural hair is easily damaged.

The quality of most clip-ins leaves a lot to be desired, which is why they are so inexpensive. As they are often only used once or for a short period, nobody wants to spend a lot of money on them.

Hairdreams can produce clip-ins upon request in the form of either weft type track or converted Quikkies tape ins. However, as quality is a priority for us, they are exclusively produced custom in our Premium 5-STAR and 7-STAR hair qualities.

Cut hair

“Cut hair” actually means very little. It only refers to hair that has been cut or shaved directly from a person’s head. Such hair is therefore only cut hair at the moment it is cut off.

“Cut hair” is intended to suggest a particular hair quality. But unfortunately this is incorrect, as nobody knows whether this cut-off hair has been bleached, dyed or otherwise chemically treated by the donor. It is also deceptive and should always be questioned what hair quality and which raw hair type (Asian, Caucasian, African – see “raw hair” section) the cut hair is, what natural color this hair once had and how good the surface texture still is.

In any case, as soon as a physically or chemical treatment has taken place (either before or after being cut off), it is no longer untreated raw hair. Certain hair dealers claim falsely for marketing purposes that cut hair has the best quality and sell it as virgin untreated hair.

Conclusion: a good marketing trick, but that is all.

Ethically sourced hair

Due to the great demand for real hair, a worldwide black market has developed, dealing with stolen hair. To make a clear distinction to fairly traded hair, the “Ethically sourced hair” seal was introduced: only voluntarily donated hair may bear this title.

We at Hairdreams attach special importance to only processing hair from adults who have sold it voluntarily at a fair price. You can rest assured that we do not purchase our raw hair blindly on the hair market! To ensure that it is “ethically sourced hair”, we either acquire the raw hair directly from the hair donors, from hair stylists or certified hair collectors and check its origins again ourselves.

Film toupee / Foliums

This type of toupee has a medium to extremely thin film that hair is attached to. This film is then attached to the scalp with an adhesive. Film toupees provide a very natural look.

However, the thinner the film, the shorter the toupee lasts. Very thin film toupees last on average 6 weeks before they either tear or the hair starts falling out. The hair in film toupees is not aligned in the same direction, so it is non-Remy (see the “non-Remy” section). This causes a lot of matting after just a few washes.

Hairpieces

A hairpiece basically refers to any form of hair replacement that is not a wig. This for example includes a toupee, butterfly hairpiece, part piece, T parting, hair filler etc.

Hairpieces can be made of real or artificial hair and are available as readymade solutions or as a customized piece, designed for an individual.

Hairskin

This is a type of toupee with an average thickness of 0.06 mm. The hair is attached without knots to the toupee surface, the SuperSkin, to simulate natural growth. The SuperSkin is fixed to the scalp with adhesive and adhesive strips but is still very breathable.

However, as with all other film toupees (see “film toupee” section), the following applies to Hairskin: the thinner the film, the shorter the toupee lasts.

Hair implants

Contrary to hair transplants, where one’s own hair is relocated, in hair implants artificial hair is inserted into the scalp.

However, the human body will only accept a certain amount of artificial hair, rejecting the rest. Consequently, the rejected hair falls out. This method is only viable for small bald patches and not suitable for counteracting severe hair loss.

The best solution for hair loss is our hair integration system. Your Hairdreams partner salon near you can provide a detailed consultation.

Hair integration

In the case of hair loss and thin hair, hair integration is no doubt the best solution, because the hair on an integration piece can be efficiently and invisibly worked together with ones own natural hair. This isn’t possible with tape and bonded extensions, as they would be visible and do not provide the necessary volume on the top of the head. The one exception is our Secrets invisible tape extensions, which can also be used in the part because it looks like the hair is growing from your scalp and can be applied high on the the head with very little of ones own hair to cover and blend.

Hairdreams has developed and patented MicroLines for hair integration. The MicroLines system will give you even and natural hair volume over your whole head, including the roots. This method is extremely unique and even helps when other thickening methods have failed. They can be applied gently and permanently to the scalp or, alternatively with removable with clips – but no matter what method: MicroLines is extremely comfortable and completely invisible.

Hair loss

Hair loss can manifest in various forms and refers to an excessive loss of hair. For example, in permanent androgenetic hair loss, as a rule one loses more than 60 to 100 hairs per day over a long period and there is noticeably less and thinner hair. With Alopecia Areata, which is triggered by an autoimmune reaction, hair loss is often very sudden and in clumps.

The causes for hair loss can be genetic, hormonal, illness, the wrong diet, stress and other factors. Hair loss is often seen as a male problem, but women face it equally. Unfortunately, hair loss is increasingly common and has severe psychological effects for many of those affected. Not only does it effect self-confidence but also feelings of self-worth.

Hairdreams has been working on reliable answers for decades such as our innovative and patented MicroLines hair thickening system!

Hair net/topper

The term hair net/topper refers to an elastic, net-like head covering that is used to keep hair together and can also be used for hair thickening. Hair strands are fitted to the hair net/topper. This net is integrated into the natural hair using various methods. It is most common for the hair net/topper to be attached to the natural hair using a bonding ring.

Hair nets/toppers should not to be mistaken for our MicroLines. Hair nets/toppers are usually thicker, woven fabrics with hair attached. MicroLines, as the name suggests, are ultra fine net thread lines that real hair is attached to. These lines are then joined individually to matrices and can thus be adapted perfectly to the shape of the individual’s head. MicroLines is extremely comfortable to wear and the quality is world renowned.

Hair sources

European hair, Russian hair, Slavic hair, Indian hair, Brazilian hair – in the hair industry, it’s not unusual for hair to be falsely attributed to certain countries. The aim is to make the end consumer believe that they can expect a certain hair quality.

However, the classification of hair according to country of origin is not very helpful (see “Russian hair”). Instead, to make a more informative decision, it’s best to look for the hair type (Caucasian, Asian, African). You can read further details in the “raw hair” section.

Hair thickening for length and ends

Beautiful hair fullness and volume can be achieved with various methods including bonded extensions, tape extensions or wefts, as they integrate wonderfully with natural hair for thickening in length and at the ends.

For beautiful results, you need to start with quality hair extensions. Hairdreams only works with tape  and bonded extensions in top hair quality: our proven  5-Star quality and the legendary 7-Star quality.

Hair transplants

Hair transplants is a surgical technique that removes hair follicles from one part of the body, called the ‘donor site’, to a bald or balding part of the body known as the ‘recipient site’.  The transplanted hair then continues to grow normally. Anywhere from 10 to 80 percent of transplanted hair will fully grow back in an estimated three to four months. Like regular hair, transplanted hair will thin over time.

A hair transplant is therefore not satisfactory in the long term. Hairdreams hair integration offers a viable and natural looking solution. You can get a consultation at a  Hairdreams partner salon near you.

Indian hair

In principle, Indian hair lies between the Caucasian and Asian hair type (see “raw hair” section). Many different ethnicities live in India, which is why Indian hair can have both an oval and a round diameter.

The color among young Indians is naturally black. Older people who’s hair is already grey often cover grey with henna dyes. The henna dye washes out over time and fades, however the grey hair is then discolored in red and orange tones.

There are basically two raw hair types in India: temple hair (Remy hair) and fallen hair (non-Remy hair).

  • Indian temple hair is hair that is donated by women, men and children in Hindu temples for religious reasons. To ensure that the donated hair is hygienic, it will be chemically cleaned. This chemical cleaning can be effect the quality of the hair. Henna also acts as an irritant to the hair cuticle causing the cuticle to become thinner and thinner. Dyed hair can no longer be referred to as pure raw hair.
  • “Fallen hair” is hair that has been combed out, gathered and sold to hair collectors.  The same problems as with henna dye apply to this hair, as it is no longer Remy.
Hair Piece Application

The way a hairpiece is attached or applied is an important quality feature. There are various types, which differ in comfort, durability and appearance.

There are net hairpieces (monofilament) consisting of nylon threads with various mesh thicknesses (from very fine to very thick). In addition, there are also film hairpieces that are made of polymers (PU/poly), which are skin-like materials whose main components are usually silicone and polyurethane.

Nano bead extensions

This is a mini variation of the micro bead extensions that are up to 90% smaller. For this reason you also need a lot of hair strands, between 500 and 1000, to achieve greater hair volume. Between 200 and 300 hair strands are needed for micro bead extensions.

Hairdreams does not work with nano bead extensions, our product range is exclusively tape and bonding extensions.

Non-remy hair

When hair is cut or when hair from different sources is gathered together, it gets mixed up. To be precise, the strands are not aligned in the same direction of growth. The consequence is that their hair cuticles rub against each other and mat the hair.

So that this does not happen, in many cases the hair cuticles are cauterized chemically or melted off (with acid) and coated with a silicon layer. This hair is then sold falsely as “Remy hair”. Why falsely? The silicon layer washes off after several washes, resulting in splitting. Ultimately it leads to severe matting.

Permanent hair thickening

If you would like lasting hair volume, a permanent hair thickening is suitable for you. In this method, hair extensions, for example in the form of tapes, are attached to the natural hair using special adhesive strips or fixed with bondings.

We at Hairdreams work with tape extensions and bonded extensions with the highest hair quality for permanent hair thickening in lengths and ends.

Peruvian hair

Peruvian hair is black, slightly wavy and belongs to the Asian hair type. The hair is much thicker than Caucasian hair and especially popular among black women.

Often, hair from Asian countries is sold under the name of “Peruvian hair.”

Raw hair

“Raw hair” refers to human hair that has not been treated physically or chemically. There are 3 basic types of human hair: Caucasian, Asian and African, which can also occur mixed.

  • African raw hair is most common in Africa. It is very curly and has a cross section that is flat (approx. 0.02 mm high and 0.8 mm wide). It is naturally black to dark brown.
  • Asian raw hair is most common in countries such as Myanmar, China, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Mongolia, Vietnam etc. It is smooth, has a round cross section and is thicker (approx. 0.07 mm to 0.12 mm). It is naturally black and has to be chemically bleached.
  • Caucasian raw hair comes from various regions worldwide and its texture is straight to curly. It is finer, has an oval to triangular cross section (approx. 0.04 mm to 0.07 mm) and is available in all color variants from black to all shades of brown, red, blond and ash-blond.

Hairdreams exclusively uses Caucasian raw hair. The lighter the color of raw hair, the rarer and more expensive the real hair is. This is because light raw hair does not need to be chemically lightened and is therefore not damaged in the refinement process.

Thousands of workers hand sort the raw hair, strand by strand, for Hairdreams with tweezers and a magnifying glass. Sorting them into a total of 25 color tones from light brown to ash-blond, resulting in uniform basic colors for our legendary Hairdreams 7-star hair quality, without any chemicals. For Hairdreams 5-star hair quality  black Caucasian raw hair is carefully lightened to the required color tone by means of an extremely elaborate and painstaking process that can take up to 6 weeks.

Unfortunately, at first glance, it’s not easy to find out whether raw hair has been physically or chemically treated/refined. To determine if hair is untreated requires scientific tests.

Hairdreams examines all raw hair supplied to us with a very thorough quality control. All incoming hair is screened and its keratin content determined. In addition, the surface properties and integrity of the hair cuticle are examined closely and the elasticity and colorfastness of the hair are checked. Only when the hair has passed all preliminary tests at Hairdreams, it is processed further as “Hairdreams raw hair”. Hair that does not meet the strict Hairdreams quality criteria is eliminated and returned to the hair suppliers.

Only hair that has never been bleached, dyed or colored, physically treated or straightened and that has a healthy, intact hair texture is worthy of being “Hairdreams raw hair.”

Unfortunately, a lot of raw hair that is offered and traded on the market does not meet our criteria. Many hair dealers and hair producers also lack the necessary expertise and the sophisticated technology used by Hairdreams for quality control. This is why most manufacturers rely on inferior hair qualities that are used in producing hair extensions and other real hair products which often leads to client dissatisfaction.

Real hair

“Real hair” refers to naturally grown hair and is clearly distinct from artificial hair in terms of its properties, care, and styling possibilities. The term “real hair” in the extension market is vague and is used independently of the hair’s exact origin, hair quality, hair structure, and refinement process.

There are many different qualities and hundreds of terms for real hair. The majority of real hair comes from dark, black raw hair that is sometimes chemically treated. Superior hair quality is contingent on the refinement processes and how well they are done.

Hairdreams hair is in a class of its own. We painstakingly hand-sort hair, hair by hair, with a magnifying glass to ensure that only the best hair is used in our products.

Remy hair

The term originates from the French “remise” which loosely translated means “to align.” 17th century French wig makers started using the terms “remise” and “non remise” for raw hair. Hair that was cut off by barbers/hairdressers and landed on the floor was referred to as “non remise”, because you can’t distinguish the top from the bottom of the hair. But, if hair was cut directly from the head and bundled immediately, noting the top and the bottom, it was referred to as “remise.” These terms were translated into English and became “Remy” and “non-Remy.”

Non-Remy hair will mat immediately if used in hair extensions. Matting is caused by the non-aligned (non-Remy hair) hair cuticles rubbing against each other. Lower quality hair manufacturers will cauterize, or melt off the cuticle non-Remy hair with a chemical process, then seal the hair shaft with silicone and market it as Remy hair. However, after 10 to 15 shampoos, the silicone washes off and the hair begins to mat due to the remaining cuticles not being aligned.

Not everything labelled “Remy” is truly Remy hair! Furthermore, over the course of refining hair, the hair can easily get mixed up so true Remy hair can easily become non-Remy hair.

Hairdreams has taken a stance against such methods and false statements. Since 1990 we have used a patented method that checks hair for Remy vs. non-Remy and separates them out. All hair at Hairdreams runs through this inspection process twice. The first time is when the raw hair is delivered to Hairdreams manufacturing and then a second time when the refined Hairdreams hair leaves our manufacturing and is sent to our partner salons.

Russian hair

Some hair suppliers like to use the catchphrase “Russian hair”. This is intended to suggest that it is light natural hair from blond Russians. However, this is false! Because one cannot determine where exactly the hair comes from – each individual hair would have to bear an origin stamp from the original owner of the hair, which is of course impossible. One can only establish the basic hair type based on the diameter of the hair and other genetic features.

In reality, “Russian hair” means hair that comes from the Russian region and does not reveal anything about its ethnic origins. If we consider how large Russia is, the largest country in the world, and that it is 12,000 km wide and most of it lies behind the Ural Mountains in Asia, where the majority of people of Asian origins live, it soon becomes clear that it must be predominantly Asian hair.

Alongside the orthodox Russians (41%), many different Asian and indigenous ethnicities (Tuvans, Buryats, Khakassians, Yakuts, Altays, Chukchi, Evenks, Koryaks, Nenets, Khanty, Mansi, Yukaghirs, Bashkirs, Mongols, Chuvashs, Tartars, Chechens and many others) live in Russia. Therefore the term “Russian hair” has little meaning. What is decisive is what raw hair type it is (Caucasian, African, Asian) and what color the raw hair is. Most Russian hair is black and of an Asian type, as it comes from behind the Ural Mountains in the Asian region, as explained above. This hair therefore has to be chemically bleached and dyed to achieve the required color.

The question is also raised as to how the hair is obtained. Whether it is cut individually from the head (Remy hair), comes from prisons or is gathered from the floor at hairdressers (non-Remy hair).

Conclusion: the term “Russian real hair” is used purely for marketing purposes and is intended to dupe the end consumer into thinking that it is hair with a Caucasian hair texture.

Sandwich procedure

This is a method for applying tape extensions. A section of natural hair “sandwiched” between two tape extensions (see “tape extensions” section). This method not only prevents an uncomfortable feeling on the head but also reduces the risk of hair breakage.

Shorter lengths

The hair on our head is not all of the same length. The reason: they have differing growth times. If a braid is cut off, there are also many short hair strands in it that cannot be used for hair extensions of a certain length. This shorter hair is referred to as shorter lengths.

We at Hairdreams reliably remove these shorter lengths out of the raw hair braids in two to three procedures. Why? We can then guarantee an even thickness from the roots to the ends. Compared to the hair strands of competitors where the shorter lengths are often only minimally eliminated, Hairdreams real hair extensions are incomparably voluminous and only have a minimal number of shorter lengths.

Shorter lengths are also often referred to as “drawn”. It refers to the procedure in which the too short hair is drawn out of the hair braid.

Slavic hair

The term “Slavic hair”, like “Russian hair”, is regularly used by some non-transparent hair dealers for marketing purposes, referring to the wider “Slavic” area of origin, from Russia to Poland and Montenegro. It is intended to suggest that it is light natural hair from blonde Slavics (Czechs, Russians etc.). But, this is false!

In countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Serbia, Romania, the Ukraine, Russia etc. the standard of life has continuously risen in recent decades. Consequently, the demand for beauty products such as hair extensions, especially among younger women, has increased greatly, so that these countries are increasingly important markets for real hair products. The probability that there are many women in such countries who make their hair available for hair extensions is very low.

Furthermore, one cannot establish where the hair comes from. Each individual strand would have to bear an origin stamp indicating the original owner, but this is, of course unfeasible. One can only establish the basic hair type on the basis of the diameter of the hair and other genetic properties. For “Slavic hair”, every individual hair would therefore have to be genetically tested and certified in order to be able to claim that it was really hair from a Slavic person.

However, when one considers the huge territory of the former Soviet Union and that the majority of it lies in Asia, one can only presume which hair type it really is. Tests have shown that this so-called “Slavic hair” is largely of an Asian type (“see “raw hair” section) and probably comes from the Asian regions of the former Soviet Union. It is naturally mostly dark to black and has to be chemically bleached and dyed. In many cases, the hair cuticle has also been cauterized.

Conclusion: the terminology “Slavic hair” is used purely for marketing purposes and dupes the end consumer into believing it is hair from Eastern European ethnicities and of a Caucasian basic hair type.

Tape extensions

What are tape-ins?

Tape-ins are adhesive strips made of PU (Polyurethane) and other types of synthetics, which real hair strands are attached to. This synthetic adhesive strip acts like a double adhesive strip. When the protection film is peeled off, the real hair extensions are applied to the natural hair with the adhesive tape. It is an especially quick and straightforward method that is also known by the names “tape-in” or just “tapes”.

The material of the adhesive strip is integral for comfortable wear. Tapes can often be too hard and then not be molded to the shape of the head of the wearer and can be easily felt. If tapes are thick, there is also the risk that they do not last long, as the adhesive loosens more easily. Thinner and softer tapes are more reliable, but are also more difficult and expensive to produce.

Which tapes does Hairdreams use?

Hairdreams exclusively uses wafer-thin, super flexible and extremely durable PU strips for our Quikkies tape extensions in 5-Star quality.

In addition to Quikkies, we also produce Secrets tape extensions. Secrets are absolutely invisible! Hairdreams hair comes directly out of the surface of the PU strips, covering the adhesive strip. The hair appears to grow directly out of the scalp.

How are the tapes applied and removed?

In most cases, the tapes are attached to the natural hair by means of the sandwich procedure, with one tape over and one tape under a section of hair.  Quikkies tape extensions are also applied this way.

As your natural hair grows, the tapes move further down. They therefore have to be regularly removed and reapplied further up on your hair. But not to worry, you do not need to buy new tape extensions every time! The adhesive strips are misted with a gentle removal spray and can then be easily removed from the natural hair. With our special replacement tapes or “Refix tapes”, we then reattach the tapes to your natural hair.

Top of head hair thickening

In case of thin hair or bald spots on the crown or top of the head, hair integration is the best solution for creating an attractive and natural-looking thickening. Hairdreams has developed and patented MicroLines for this situation. MicroLines is designed with micro fine lines (mesh) with the finest real hair attached and is custom fitted to the individual’s head. It can be fitted permanently but without any damage to the scalp, or with removable clips. No matter what the method, MicroLines is extremely comfortable and completely invisible.

The MicroLines system has often been copied, but its exceptional wearing comfort and high quality are unrivalled. These imitations never live up to their claims and clients are always disappointed. MicroLines is especially effective when used on large bald spots.

A crown or top of the head hair thickening with bonded or tape extensions is very difficult. The hair extensions would be visible and would not provide the necessary volume on the crown. Only our Secrets Invisible Tape Extensions are ideal for use near or at the part, as their special design makes it look as if they are growing straight out of the scalp.

Topper

Toppers are hair nets with artificial or real hair sewn/tied in, and then integrated into natural hair. Toppers should not to be confused with our innovative and patented MicroLines that are made to perfectly fit the individual’s head shape.

Toupee

Toupees are half wigs or replacement hairpieces that serve to conceal partial hair loss. They are usually customized hairpieces that are mostly worn by men with a receding hairline or bald crown.

Originally the term toupee referred to a hair fashion from the second half of the 18th century, a hair coif created by backcombing or pads underneath and fixed with pomade.

Virgin hair

“Virgin hair” is a term that has only been used in the hair industry for marketing purposes for about 10 years, but is often used incorrectly. The term is supposed to suggest that it is virgin hair, meaning pristine hair of the highest quality. But in 99.99 % of cases this is false. Because only hair that has had absolutely nothing done to it – neither by the original owner nor in further processing – can be referred to as virgin hair.

All so-called virgin hair on the market has been physically or chemically treated. Dyed, bleached or otherwise physically treated hair may not be called virgin hair, as this is deceptive. Hairdreams therefore explicitly avoids such statements.

Wigs

Aside from the toupee, the wig is the most well-known form of hair replacement. Not a modern invention, wigs were commonly worn by ancient Egyptians.

A wig covers the entire head from the forehead to the neck. The hair is attached to a base made for example out of tulle – which is sewn so that it fits closely to the head. A wig is suitable for people who have either lost all their hair, who have too little hair to attach a hairpiece to and for people who like to change their hairstyle quickly and easily.
