Bonded extensions or tapes? A guide to choosing the right hair extensions for you

Which type of hair extensions should you choose for stunning results? That’s the big question! There are various factors to take into consideration.

Bonded Extensions

As the name suggests, these extensions use keratin to bond individual strands of hair together. The attachment points are fused with a heat tool, then the extensions are attached to your natural hair. There are two methods of attaching bonded extensions: the first involves attaching individual strands of hair by hand with heat tongs, though it is also possible to mechanically attach several extensions at the same time. The second technique is far speedier, though in contrast to attaching individual strands it does not allow for anywhere near as detailed an application.

Hairdreams offers both methods. Depending on what hairstyle you want and your natural hair type, our human hair extensions are either attached individually with the FreeStyler, or up to five strands of hair are attached simultaneously with the Laserbeamer NANO.

Tape Extensions

Tape extensions are strips of adhesive that hold together strands of hair that are attached to your natural hair. The most common method for attaching tapes is known as the sandwich method; one tape is attached above a section of your natural hair and another tape below. To ensure a comfortable fit, it’s important that the adhesive strips are thin and soft as this allows them to adapt perfectly to the shape of the head – this way nothing scratches or irritates the scalp.

Hairdreams offers two different types of tape-ins: Quikkies and Secrets. Both are made with wafer-thin, adhesive strips and are ultra comfortable. Quikkies tape extensions are practically invisible and are ideal for adding length and volume. Secrets, on the other hand, are totally invisible. Secrets can be placed higher on the head and look like they are growing right from your scalp.
